Today was distribution day! We arrived at Mukono School in the morning and quickly organized all the boxes into the distubution piles. Eight schools approximately 800 kids total gathered for the ceremony, the special guest was the Mayor of Mukono aka his Lordship (that is what they called him, no joke!) As students sat under white tents in bright blue chairs, their voices sang out in songs of greeting and thanks.
Several schools had prepared a special song or dance for us. After the kids sang and danced, the adults gave speeches. The day was marvelous as you could feel the excitement and joy bubbling throughout. Everyone was grateful and appreciative of all that was donated. We handed out individual items and took lots of photos.
At the end of the day we watched kids pack boxes out on their heads, or pile into an old pick-up.
There was much joy and singing.
Hi Heather,
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear you have arrived safe and sound. And oh how fun distribution day is! I remember that day well. The sincere gratitude. The songs. The excitement. Thanks for being our ambassador from Blaine. Can't wait to hear more about your travels and the amazing people of Uganda.
