Last night I did a little shopping with a lovely Bengali woman, Bandana, she was about 65 years old a friend of the school principal. Bandana is a librarian at a local Indian school, she studied in the US and was very much in love with the US. We went to a beautiful little shop where a man named Bashir Butt manufactures and imports gorgeous pashminas, scarves, bed spreads... they are hand woven and then embroidered in one of a kind patterns. The men apparently do the embroidery, the women do the spinning. I of course picked one of the most expensive ones because of the design. Don't worry mom I got one for you too! The Bashir Butt family also owns house boats on lake Dal and he offered for me to go there this weekend. His proof about how beautiful his place was? Pictures of Ivanna Trump and Peter Jennings staying there ( not together.) They did look amazing...
